Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Materials are a research focus in many fields. Current efforts aim to develop innovative materials suitable for specific applications. Therefore, new technologies for obtaining, manufacturing, and recycling them are being developed. These processes require control and stabilisation, mainly regarding the quality of the materials. In the era of climate change, actions should address not only expected quality but also environmental protection. Other important aspects include social responsibility and costs. Integrating these elements aligns with the concept of Industry 5.0. To this end, it is necessary to search for solutions that will be consistent with the principles of continuous improvement, the philosophy of sustainable development, corporate social responsibility, and the idea of Industry 5.0. It is crucial to make decisions that will ensure the development and improvement of materials and processes in a way that is safe for the environment, while at the same time meeting market expectations. This is an open issue to which this Special Issue is devoted. Therefore, we welcome research that covers quality, environmental, social, and cost aspects related to modern materials. We encourage you to submit studies containing original proposals for the use of modern materials, design based on modern materials, and process improvement with changes in materials. We also welcome works covering other techniques and approaches that help solve the presented problem, e.g., quality management techniques, multi-criteria decision support methods (MCDA), lean manufacturing (LM) instruments, and life cycle assessment (LCA).

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
