Dear Colleagues,
High-performance materials, such as titanium alloys, aluminium alloys, advanced composites, etc., are increasingly vital in aerospace, defence, and clean energy systems. However, their inherent susceptibility to thermal damage, oxidation, and strict process windows poses significant challenges to conventional welding techniques. This Special Issue, titled “Intelligent Welding and Advanced Perception Technology for High-Performance Materials”, aims to showcase cutting-edge research that integrates intelligent welding processes with multi-dimensional perception technologies. We invite contributions on novel sensing modalities—including visual, spectral, and acoustic emission monitoring—as well as AI-driven signal processing, digital twin-based process control, and closed-loop adaptive regulation. Topics of interest also cover weld formation mechanisms, microstructure evolution, and defect suppression strategies specific to difficult-to-weld materials. By bridging the gap between material physics and intelligent manufacturing, this Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for interdisciplinary innovations that enhance weld quality, process stability, and production efficiency. Original research articles and comprehensive reviews are both welcome.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
