Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Recent years, even decades, have been inextricably linked with dynamic technological development. This is particularly true for organic electronics. Significant progress has been made in this field, including research on organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs), organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs), organic photodiodes (OPDs), and organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Interestingly, OLEDs have already been commercialized. As a result, we can successfully purchase a range of products based on this technology. These include displays, tablets, monitors, and even televisions. However, for these devices to continue to develop, progress in the search for and research on new materials is essential. Currently, high hopes are placed in organic small-molecule compounds. This is largely because these compounds can be obtained via fully reproducible, highly efficient syntheses. The structures of small-molecule organic compounds can be confirmed using a variety of rapid, accessible techniques. Physicochemical properties, on the other hand, can be tailored to specific requirements through various structural modifications.

The purpose of this Special Issue, titled "The Influence of the Structure of Functional Materials on Their Physicochemical Properties and Application Possibilities," is to present research on the synthesis and selected physicochemical properties in the context of applications in organic electronics. Therefore, the topics covered include:

  • Synthesis of small-molecule organic compounds and their detailed structural characterization
  • Studies of selected physicochemical properties (e.g., thermal, optical, electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical) in the context of organic electronics
  • Application research in OLEDs, LECs, OPVs, OPDs, and OFETs

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
