Machine Design and Theory

A section of Machines (ISSN 2075-1702).

Section Information

The "Machine Design and Theory” Section focuses on the fundamental principles and advanced methodologies involved in the design, and optimization of machines. This section welcomes original contributions that enhance the theoretical understanding of electrical and mechanical design processes, as well as innovative applications that address contemporary engineering challenges. Topics include electromagnetics, kinematics, dynamics, electrical behavior, structural mechanics, machine elements, design optimization, and the synthesis of machines and mechanisms. Studies involving Finite Element Analysis, CAD/CAE integration, intelligent systems, compliant mechanisms, and novel materials are also of interest. Submissions that bridge theory and practice, supporting the development of reliable, efficient, and sustainable electrical and mechanical solutions are particularly welcome.

The scope also embraces intelligent design approaches, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and other data-driven techniques to address emerging opportunities and ongoing challenges in traditional design.

In addition, it welcomes articles related to key trends in machine design and theory, such as smart materials, sustainable design, advanced manufacturing, and the integration of digital tools. It aims to support the advancement of both theoretical insight and practical innovation in modern and next-generation machine design.

This Section also welcomes papers with an interdisciplinary approach such as review papers on specific subjects and papers that illustrate the design of novel machines and/or novel methodologies to design emerging engineered products and systems.
