Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Modern research on advanced ceramics and ceramic composites has highlighted their exceptional superior mechanical, thermal, and tribological properties for many engineering applications. Ceramics are especially well suited for operating under severe working conditions, such as in modern roller and slide bearings, as well as in metalworking and metal cutting tools. When combined with metallic matrix to form cermet composites, ceramics play a key role in achieving superior hardness without compromising the fracture toughness (or strength) of the novel materials.

In order to boost the reliability and lifetime of advanced ceramics, studies have extensively investigated their tribological behavior both in hybrid contact and in self-mating contact pairs; a field intrinsically crucial to adapting ceramics to new and emerging applications with demanding operating conditions. Nonetheless, the technological advancements in the fields of materials synthesis, microstructural engineering, and nanotechnology dictate a better understanding of the tribological behavior of this class of materials.

This Special Issue will examine current advances and future trends in the tribology of advanced ceramics and cermet composites many engineering applications, including energy and environment. The target here is to intertwine technological advancements in engineering fields with the tribological behavior of ceramics and ceramic composites. Advanced technologies such novel materials, wear protection and corrosion inhibition techniques, and tribological applications are of prime concern. Researchers in the fields of tribology and materials science, both from the academia and industry, are welcome to submit their contributions.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Lubricants is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
