Immunopathology of Oral Mucosal Disease
This special issue belongs to the section "Physiology and Pathology".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
As we are all aware, oral mucosal diseases, including lichen planus, mucous membrane pemphigoid or recurrent aphthous stomatitis, and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) such as leukoplakia and erythroplakia, represent a significant global medical burden. They are affecting millions worldwide, causing chronic inflammation, pain, and a heightened risk of progression to oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). All of these conditions arise from dysregulated immune responses involving T-cell-mediated cytotoxicity, autoantibody production, cytokine storms, and immune evasion in premalignant states, often triggered by a genetic predisposition, microbial factors, or environmental risk factors such as tobacco consumption. We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, “Immunopathology of Oral Mucosal Disease”, which will highlight the mechanisms behind these disease to advance precision medicine in oral health.
This Special Issue will consolidate cutting-edge research on the immunological underpinnings of oral mucosal diseases (including OPMDs and OSCC) by elucidating immune-mediated pathogenesis, identifying novel diagnostic/prognostic biomarkers and exploring innovative therapeutic strategies such as biologics and checkpoint inhibitors. It will bridge basic science with clinical translation, addressing unmet needs in risk stratification for malignant progression and personalized management.
We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses for this Special Issue.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
Kind regards,
Dr. Dinko Martinovic
Guest Editor
Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
