Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue “Oxidative Stress, Neurodegeneration, and Neuropharmacology: Mechanisms and Protective Strategies” aims to bring together recent advances in understanding the complex interplay between oxidative stress, neuronal dysfunction, and pharmacological interventions in the context of neurodegenerative diseases. Oxidative stress is widely recognised as a central factor in the onset and progression of neurodegeneration, contributing to impaired cellular homeostasis, mitochondrial dysfunction, and activation of cell death pathways. Increasing evidence highlights the importance of redox imbalance in modulating key signalling cascades, including Nrf2/ARE, MAPK (ERK, JNK, p38), NF-κB, and other pathways involved in inflammation, apoptosis, autophagy, and mitochondrial dynamics.
In parallel, neuropharmacological research continues to explore both established and emerging therapeutic agents, natural and synthetic, that can modulate neurodegenerative processes and confer neuroprotection. However, significant challenges remain in fully understanding their mechanisms of action, particularly under complex and disease-relevant conditions.
The Special Issue welcomes original research articles and reviews addressing molecular and cellular mechanisms of oxidative stress in neurodegeneration, as well as studies investigating pharmacological strategies aimed at mitigating oxidative damage and improving neuronal survival. By integrating insights from redox biology and neuropharmacology, this Special Issue seeks to advance the development of more effective and targeted therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disorders.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
