Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Dysphagia is a common and clinically significant condition that can occur across a wide range of neurological, age-related, structural, and systemic conditions. Impaired swallowing can have serious consequences, including aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, dehydration, and reduced quality of life. As swallowing is a complex sensorimotor process involving multiple anatomical structures and physiological mechanisms, a comprehensive understanding of swallowing disorders requires perspectives that extend from underlying mechanisms to clinical assessment and management.
Recent advances in dysphagia research have expanded our understanding of swallowing physiology and pathophysiology and have introduced increasingly objective and quantitative approaches to evaluating swallowing function. Alongside established clinical and instrumental assessments, advances in imaging, physiological measurement, and rehabilitation technologies provide new opportunities to characterize swallowing impairment, monitor functional changes, and evaluate treatment outcomes.
This Special Issue, titled “Current Perspectives on Dysphagia,” aims to bring together current research and emerging perspectives on the mechanisms, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of dysphagia across diverse populations and clinical conditions. We welcome original research and review articles addressing swallowing physiology and pathophysiology, clinical and quantitative assessment, diagnostic and imaging approaches, therapeutic and rehabilitation strategies, treatment monitoring, and emerging technologies relevant to dysphagia.
We hope that this Special Issue will provide an interdisciplinary platform for advancing the understanding of dysphagia and promoting more effective approaches to its assessment, management, and rehabilitation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Life is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
