Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With its incidence rising globally, cancer is set to overtake heart disease as the leading cause of mortality. Cancer diagnosis and survival remain highly disparate within and between nations. In the US, Black patients have a 20% increased risk of cancer mortality compared to white patients. Cancer mortality is 1.6–2.8 times higher among patients with <12 years of education. Likewise, rural denizens have approximately a 20% higher risk of cancer mortality. Around the world, developing nations are suffering the greatest rise in cancer incidence, which poses a growing burden on their healthcare systems.

We invite authors to contribute experimental and real-world data on cancer disparities, discussing the biological causes of survival differences. Topics of interest include the following:

  1. Epidemiology of cancer health disparities in diverse, global settings;
  2. Molecular or genomic bases of cancer health disparities;
  3. Clinical trials addressing cancer health disparities.

Sharing outcomes of addressing these disparities can help inform future initiatives and reduce the global burden of cancer.
