Dear Colleagues,
Environmental contaminants are increasingly recognized as important contributors to human and ecological health disorders. Exposure to pollutants such as heavy metals, pesticides, industrial chemicals, air pollutants, endocrine-disrupting compounds, and food-borne toxicants can disrupt normal physiological processes, leading to metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, oxidative stress, organ injury, and chronic disease. Advances in toxicological research have provided powerful in vitro and in vivo models that elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying these adverse effects. Integrating findings from cell culture systems and animal studies is essential for understanding toxicity pathways, identifying biomarkers of exposure and effect, and improving risk assessment strategies for environmental hazards.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, “Mechanisms of Environmental Toxicant-Induced Disruption of Physiological Homeostasis”, which aims to highlight recent advances in understanding how environmental toxicants alter physiological homeostasis and contribute to disease development. The topic aligns closely with the journal’s scope by emphasizing mechanistic toxicology, experimental models, environmental health, and translational research relevant to human and animal health.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research topics may include, but need not be limited to, the following:
- Mechanistic or omics studies of environmental toxicants;
- Oxidative stress, inflammation, and cellular signaling pathways in toxicology;
- Metabolic dysfunction and environmental contributors to chronic diseases;
- Endocrine disruption and reproductive toxicology;
- Hepatic, renal, cardiovascular, and neurotoxic effects of environmental contaminants;
- Cell culture models for mechanistic toxicology studies;
- Animal models for evaluating toxicological outcomes and disease progression;
- Biomarkers of exposure, susceptibility, and toxicity;
- Emerging contaminants and mixture toxicology;
- Translational approaches linking experimental toxicology to environmental health risk assessment.
