Dear Colleagues,
Rare rheumatic diseases pose growing challenges in both clinical practice and research, but they also offer unique opportunities to advance precision medicine. We are pleased to announce a Special Issue, entitled "New Horizons in Rare Rheumatic Diseases: Towards Precision Medicine", in the Journal of Personalized Medicine (JPM).
In fact, following Leonardo da Vinci lessons, direct observation and description of unusual cases without scientific prejudices might guide clinicians to clinically suspect and discover special conditions. A multidisciplinary approach serves as the essential first step, transforming isolated observations into precision diagnoses, comprehensive disease management, and preliminary compassionate treatment options.
In the second step, where ancient meets modernity, the diagnosed rare diseases might be collected in regional and international registries to optimize the classification criteria and to define possible clinical trials.
In this future perspective, new serological and genetic biomarkers might discover new insights, and the possible use of artificial intelligence might offer great horizons to ameliorate diagnostic and therapeutic criteria and protocols, ultimately enhancing care for patients with rare rheumatic diseases.
We warmly invite outstanding experts to contribute to this Special Issue on future challenges and advances in rare rheumatic diseases research. Submissions may include original articles, reviews, systematic reviews, and other types on topics including, but not limited to, the following:
- Novel diagnostic biomarkers and genetic insights
- Artificial intelligence applications in rare disease diagnosis and management
- Multidisciplinary approaches to complex clinical presentations
- Clinical trial designs and therapeutic innovations in rare rheumatic diseases

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Journal of Personalized Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
