Personalized Medicine in Obstetrics and Urogynaecology: Updates and Challenges
This special issue belongs to the section “Personalized Therapy in Clinical Medicine“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Personalised medicine is an essential component of treatment, evaluation, and management in gynaecological and especially urogynaecological patients. The objective of the Special Issue is to publish state-of-the-art information on diagnosis, strategies, and therapeutic and surgical techniques for gynaecological and pelvic floor disorders. We welcome research original articles, and review papers that include new scientific data on evaluating pelvic floor disorders, such as urinary and bowel incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and recurrent urinary tract infections, as well as novel treatment options, e.g., new pharmacological regimens, neuromodulations, and enhanced invasive options.
We are also interested in conservative management pathways, their applications, and their long-term effectiveness and compliance, as well as the role of multidisciplinary cooperation among different specialities, such as urogynaecologists, urologists, radiologists, colorectal surgeons, and physiotherapists. The role of the lower genital system microbiome and its impact on pelvic floor and other disorders has recently been revealed to be a very promising topic that merits further investigation.
Other modalities, such as mesh and other surgical complications, sexual dysfunction, genitourinary menopause syndrome, and chronic pelvic pain, require urgent re-appraisal through scientific and clinical research and development.
