Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Infectious diseases remain the leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, with pathogens continually evolving. Traditional diagnosis and treatment rely on standardized protocols and broad-spectrum antimicrobials, but limitations are increasingly evident amidst antimicrobial resistance, emerging pathogens, and variable patient responses.
Precision medicine is transforming infectious disease management by personalizing diagnostics and therapies. The path to personalization began with 19th-century discoveries of microbial causes and 20th-century antibiotics and vaccines. Integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics enables clinicians to consider both host genetics and pathogen profiles, enabling faster diagnosis, improved efficacy, and reduced resistance.
This Special Issue aims to explore the current landscape and emerging frontiers of personalized infectious disease care. It aims to (1) trace historical milestones; (2) highlight cutting-edge diagnostics like NGS, metagenomics, and AI-driven tools; (3) explore host-directed strategies including pharmacogenomics, immunogenomic profiling, and microbiome-based interventions; (4) evaluate challenges such as implementation barriers, disparities, and cost; and (5) outline future directions, including digital health, personalized vaccines, and AI-enabled therapies. Focus includes bacterial and viral infections such as tuberculosis, HIV, and COVID-19.
We invite authors to submit original works in the above fields in the form of clinical research, literature reviews, translational research, meta-analyses, etc.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Personalized Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
