Dear Colleagues,
Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common and lethal malignancies worldwide, and its clinical management continues to evolve rapidly. Advances in neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy regimens, refinements in TNM staging (including the ongoing debate on the prognostic role of tumor deposits and the N1c category), the wider adoption of minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques, and the development of organ-preservation strategies have all reshaped the therapeutic landscape over the past decade. Despite this progress, important questions remain open regarding how best to select, sequence, and individualize treatment for patients with colorectal cancer—particularly in locally advanced and metastatic disease—and how to translate emerging prognostic and predictive markers into everyday clinical decision-making.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate recent advances related to the optimization of colorectal cancer therapy, from neoadjuvant and surgical strategies to prognostic staging and multidisciplinary care pathways. We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses addressing the diagnosis, staging, surgical and oncologic management, and long-term outcomes of patients with colon and rectal cancer.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy strategies in locally advanced rectal cancer;
- Prognostic staging refinement: tumor regression grade, tumor deposits, and the N1c category;
- Minimally invasive and robotic colorectal surgery;
- Organ preservation and watch-and-wait strategies in rectal cancer;
- Multidisciplinary management of locally advanced and metastatic colorectal cancer;
- Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) and perioperative optimization;
- Colorectal cancer screening and early detection.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
