Current Concepts and Technological Innovations in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Transplantation
This special issue belongs to the section “Gastroenterology & Hepatopancreatobiliary Medicine“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and transplantation represent some of the most technically demanding and rapidly evolving fields in modern surgery. Significant progress has been made in the management of HPB malignancies, complex vascular reconstructions, and transplant oncology, driven by refinements in surgical techniques, better perioperative care, and the development of translational models.
This Special Issue aims to provide an overview of current concepts and evolving strategies in HPB surgery and transplantation. Areas of interest include contemporary approaches to the surgical treatment of pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers, as well as techniques and outcomes of vascular reconstruction in HPB procedures (including the use of vascular grafts).
A further key pillar of this Special Issue is the integration of innovation and new technologies into both clinical practice and training. We welcome contributions on simulation-based training, the role of minimally invasive and robotic techniques in liver, pancreatic, and biliary surgery, and the emerging applications of artificial intelligence and data-driven tools for diagnosis, risk stratification, intraoperative guidance, and outcome prediction. In addition, we are particularly interested in studies exploring machine perfusion and other organ-preservation strategies that may expand the donor pool and optimize graft function in HPB transplantation.
We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and state-of-the-art perspectives from surgeons, transplant specialists, oncologists, radiologists, and allied scientists. Our goal is to create a multidisciplinary platform that reflects both current practice and future directions in HPB surgery and transplantation.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
