Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cochlear implant is a well established procedure to restore hearing in adults and children. With the improvement of technologies, indications are expanding, surgery is more accurate and audiological and perceptive outcomes are evaluated with new tools. Indications for cochlear implantation are progressively expanding beyond traditional candidacy criteria, now including patients with residual low-frequency hearing, unilateral hearing loss, or single-sided deafness. Surgical techniques have become more precise and less invasive, thanks to innovations such as intraoperative monitoring, electrode array design, and minimally invasive approaches.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to hearing rehabilitation with cochlear implant. We consider contributions addressing the indications, guidelines, surgircak aspects and complex cases, such as inner ear malformations, ossifications e middle ear pathologies.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Cochlear implant indication;
- Pediatric audiology;
- Surgical aspects of cochlear implant;
- Difficult cases;
- Inner ear malformations;
- Audiological outcomes;
- New tools and technologies (AI, robotic insertion).
We cordially invite researchers, clinicians, and allied health professionals to submit original research or comprehensive reviews that push the boundaries of cochlear implant science and practice. This Special Issue seeks to bridge expertise across otology and rehabilitation medicine. By fostering cross-disciplinary exchange, we hope to stimulate new ideas and clinical solutions that ultimately enhance hearing outcomes and quality of life for both pediatric and adult implant users.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Journal of Clinical Medicine is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
