Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to invite you to contribute to our Special Issue entitled “New Insights in Joint Arthroplasty—2nd Edition”. In the first volume, we published eight papers. For more details, please visit https://www.mdpi.com/journal/jcm/special_issues/7SAX6A4TRV.
Total joint arthroplasty has been described as one of the most important and successful orthopedic interventions for patients with end-stage osteoarthritis of the joint.
Recent developments in hip and knee arthroplasty have aimed to improve outcomes, reduce complications, and improve implant survival. This Special Issue aims to summarize some of the most interesting trends and developments in this important and fast-moving field.
Notable developments include modern ceramic materials, mini hip stems, and the wider use of the dual mobility articulation for hip arthroplasty, taking into consideration the spinopelvic relationship and cementless knee replacement. Advances in additive manufacturing and the surface modification of joint replacements offer increasing options for more challenging arthroplasty cases.
Robot-assisted surgery is one of the most interesting developments in hip and knee surgery in recent years, using technology to improve patient outcomes through strategies aimed at more natural kinematics and optimized implant positioning. The increasing use of this technology can provide data that will help determine whether this approach should become the standard of care for hip and knee arthroplasty in the future.
The purpose of this Special Issue is to present “New Insights into joint Arthroplasty”, concerning some of the most significant technological developments with respect to implant design, fixation, and assistive technology in hip and knee arthroplasty.
