Dear Colleagues,
This special issue aims to collect original research articles, reviews, systematic reviews, case reports, project reports, and technical notes focusing on the latest innovations in concrete technology and infrastructure.
The challenges on the construction site require synergy among high-performance materials, production technologies, digital tools, and adaptive engineering approaches. The necessity for sustainable, resilient, and efficient infrastructure has driven the development of novel technologies in concrete production and applications, along with advances in structural design. It is impressive to observe how innovations in ultra-high performance, self-healing, alkali-activated, and nano-modified concretes are redefining expectations of mechanical and physical properties, durability, service life, and lifecycle performance. The rapid development of 3D printing brings remarkable opportunities for rapid prototyping, optimizing construction processes and resource efficiency, and achieving concrete structures with forms and shapes previously considered unattainable. The implementation of sensor technologies and structural health monitoring systems enables real-time assessment, predictive maintenance throughout a structure’s lifespan, and enhanced safety.
In recent years, terminology from automation and information technology has increasingly entered the field of concrete technology. Concepts such as data-driven design and AI-driven digital twins are becoming more common, while the integration of machine learning and computational modelling facilitates advanced experimentation with limited physical testing, thereby accelerating innovation in materials design. Digital intelligence is clearly expanding the boundaries of traditional concrete technology.
In this Special Issue, we aim to highlight cutting-edge developments and interdisciplinary innovations in concrete technology, with particular emphasis on the following thematic areas:
