Dear Colleagues,
We are delighted to announce a Special Issue dedicated to the utilization of proteomics for the characterization of decellularized and recellularized tissues. Over the past few years the field of tissue and organ engineering has witnessed significant advancements, and the thorough analysis of the decellularized extracellular matrix (ECM) has emerged as a crucial starting point for further investigations.
The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight the recent breakthroughs, methodologies, and advantages in utilizing proteomic analyses for the comprehensive characterization of decellularized and recellularized tissues. Proteomics, with its ability to identify and quantify the complete set of proteins within a sample, offers invaluable insights into the composition, structure, and functional properties of the decellularized ECM and recellularized constructs.
Topics of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Innovative proteomic approaches for the analysis of the decellularized ECM, including mass-spectrometry-based techniques, protein profiling, and imaging technologies.
- Identification and quantification of ECM proteins, matrisome components, and their modifications during the decellularization process.
- Characterization of the residual cellular components and potential contaminants in decellularized tissues via the use of proteomic analyses.
- Proteomic profiling of recellularized tissues to evaluate the quality and functionality of the newly introduced cells.
- Quantitative proteomic strategies to investigate the dynamic changes in the ECM composition and protein expression during recellularization as well as tissue maturation.
- Application of proteomics to the development of tissue-specific decellularization protocols and the optimization of recellularization strategies.
- Integration of proteomic data with other omics approaches to obtain a holistic understanding of the decellularization and recellularization processes.
- Bioinformatics and computational tools for the analysis and interpretation of large-scale proteomic datasets in tissue engineering.
We invite all experts, researchers, and scientists working in the fields of tissue engineering, proteomics, and related disciplines to contribute their original research articles, reviews, and perspectives to this Special Issue. By pooling our collective knowledge and expertise, we aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and push the boundaries of tissue as well as organ engineering.
