Dear Colleagues,
Natural macromolecules, such as complex polysaccharides, proteins, nucleic acids, and specialized secondary metabolites, are essential components in understanding molecular biology and developing advanced biotechnological applications. Their unique structural properties and biological activities are key to innovations in therapeutics, diagnostics, and sustainable biochemistry. However, unraveling the relationship between their molecular structure and biological function remains a significant challenge, especially when aiming for high-purity and high-yield production.
We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which focuses on the molecular pathways, structural characterization, and advanced strategies for the acquisition of these vital compounds.
This Special Issue aims to provide a deep dive into the molecular aspects of natural macromolecules. We seek to explore the biosynthesis pathways, molecular mechanisms of production, and the rigorous characterization of their chemical and functional properties. By highlighting innovative intensification methods—such as the molecular regulation of biosynthetic pathways and advanced in situ extraction techniques—this Special Issue aligns with the International Journal of Molecular Sciences’ focus on the molecular studies of biological processes and chemical structures.
In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Molecular biosynthesis of plant-derived secondary metabolites and macromolecules;
- Structural and functional characterization of bioactive natural polymers;
- Biochemical pathways and metabolic engineering for enhanced bioproduct yield;
- Molecular mechanisms of cellular production under intensified conditions;
- Isolation and purification of macromolecules for pharmaceutical and biomedical use;
- Bioactivity and molecular interactions of natural compounds with biological targets;
- Advanced analytical methods for identifying complex natural biopolymers.
