Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide, demanding relentless efforts to unravel its complex mechanisms and develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. Laboratory animal research continues to be indispensable for advancing our understanding of cardiac and vascular pathophysiology, identifying key risk factors, and validating novel therapeutic targets. Relevant animal models of disease provide significant information on the pathophysiology of CVD, enabling us to explore procedures and analyze multiple variables under controlled conditions, which are otherwise difficult to test in clinical settings.
Furthermore, advances in laboratory animal research are pivotal for validating precision medicine strategies, enabling the development of tailored therapies and predictive models that account for individual variability in disease mechanisms and treatment responses. Moreover, the validation of novel molecular and imaging modalities and diagnostic techniques in preclinical models is essential to successfully translate research from laboratory settings to clinical application.
On behalf of the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (IJMS), this Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research employing relevant animal models to bridge critical knowledge gaps in CVD. From elucidating the molecular and cellular underpinnings of disease to refining diagnostic tools and validating therapeutic interventions, animal studies remain at the forefront of translational cardiovascular research. Furthermore, insights gained from animal models contribute to developing sophisticated in silico models, enhancing predictive capabilities for disease progression and treatment response.
We would therefore like to invite experts to contribute original research articles or reviews focused on different aspects of experimental research applied in the study of cardiovascular disease. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following: novel findings in the use of animal models to study the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the manifestation of cardiovascular disease; innovative experimental and/or computational methodologies; data-driven in silico strategies; diagnostic techniques and medical–surgical treatments; and advances in laboratory animal research and future perspectives that push the boundaries of our understanding of cardiovascular disease and the application of precision medicine.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Conrado Calvo
Guest Editor
Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
