Dear Colleagues,
Nanocarriers have emerged as a suitable tool to mediate advanced diagnostic and/or therapeutic strategies enabling precise, targeted, tailored and controlled payload delivery, while minimizing systemic toxicity. The current management of human diseases including cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and infectious diseases, continue to demonstrate limitations related to poor bioavailability, off-target effects or the emergence of drug resistance. Nanocarriers demonstrate potential to overcome these drawbacks and enhance drug stability, optimize pharmacokinetics, and enable site-specific delivery with high precision.
This Special Issue aims to advance the understanding of nanocarrier-based systems within the framework of molecular sciences. Emphasis will be placed on elucidating the biochemical, molecular, and cellular mechanisms underlying nanocarrier–biological interactions. Focus will be given to studies that integrate nanocarrier design with molecular and cell biology, as well as molecular biophysics and molecular medicine. Contributions exploring the interaction of nanocarriers with biomolecules, cellular signaling pathways, and disease-relevant molecular processes are especially encouraged.
Suggested themes include, but are not limited to:
- Molecular mechanisms of nanocarrier–cell interactions;
- Cellular uptake pathways and intracellular trafficking;
- Nanocarriers in gene delivery and molecular therapeutics;
- Stimuli-responsive and multifunctional nanocarrier systems;
- Nanocarrier interactions with signaling pathways and disease-related molecular processes;
- Advanced in vitro and in vivo models for molecular evaluation of nanocarriers.
Preferred article types: Original research articles and comprehensive reviews focusing on molecular, biochemical, and cellular insights into nanocarrier systems across diverse disease contexts.
By prioritizing mechanistic depth over descriptive application, this Special Issue aims to complement and extend existing collections in the field, offering a distinct and timely contribution that aligns closely with the journal’s focus on molecular-level research.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
