Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce a Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (IJERPH), entitled "Proceedings of the 2026 Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Consortium National Conference: 40 Years of National Leadership in Biomedical Research, Training the Next Generation, and Community Health Impact."
The Organizing Committee of the 2026 RCMI Consortium National Conference invites conference presenters to submit full-length manuscripts for consideration in this peer-reviewed Proceedings collection. The conference, held on July 19–22, 2026, celebrated the 40th anniversary of the RCMI Program, recognizing four decades of congressional investment in strengthening biomedical research capacity, advancing minority health research, training the next generation of scientists, and improving community health outcomes across the United States.
This Special Issue will provide a permanent scholarly record of the innovative research, scientific advances, translational discoveries, community-engaged scholarship, and research. For more details, please visit https://rcmi-cc.org/2026/index.html.
Scope of the Proceedings: This Special Issue will capture the breadth and scientific impact of research presented during the conference while highlighting emerging directions in minority health; biomedical, socio-behavioral, and clinical research; translational science; and population health. Submissions may include original research articles, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, method papers, community case studies, program evaluation and tracking studies, implementation science reports, and/or reviews summarizing conference workshops and scientific sessions. Conference participants—including biomedical scientists, clinicians, physician-scientists, nurses, pharmacists, trainees, public health professionals, community partners, and industry collaborators—examined innovative strategies for reducing health disparities, strengthening research capacity, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and preparing the next generation of biomedical investigators.
The conference encompassed basic, behavioral, clinical, translational, implementation, and population health research across numerous disciplines, including the following:
- Behavioral and Social Sciences;
- Biomedical Informatics and Computational Biology;
- Cancer Health Disparities Research;
- Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases;
- Women's, Children's, and Adolescent Health;
- Clinical and Translational Science;
- Cellular and Molecular Biology;
- Complementary and Integrative Health;
- Environmental Health and Toxicology;
- Health Literacy and Health Information Technology;
- HIV/AIDS and Infectious Diseases;
- Nanoscience and Nanotechnology;
- Neuroscience and Mental Health;
- Public Health Sciences;
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning;
- Precision Medicine;
- Community-Engaged Research;
- Health Policy and Implementation Science.
We encourage all conference presenters to submit manuscripts based on their presentations and scientific contributions.
Submitted manuscripts must represent original research that has not been published previously and is not under consideration elsewhere. All submissions will undergo the journal's standard single-blind peer-review process. For additional information regarding the journal, please visit https://www.mdpi.com/journal/ijerph.
We look forward to receiving your contributions and showcasing the outstanding scientific achievements of the RCMI Consortium as we celebrate 40 years of excellence in biomedical research, workforce development, and community health impact.
