Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Urban agriculture provides about 10% of the global food supply and is becoming an integral component of urban planning policies thanks to its multifunctional role. Urban agriculture can contribute to the social, environmental, and economics pillars of sustainable city development. However, the soil, water, and air quality of urban areas may pose serious limitations (contamination by pathogens, inappropriate use of pesticides, high occurrence of insects/disease vectors, contamination of soil and products with heavy metals, etc.) which should be taken into account to avoid threat to public health. This Special Issue aims to provide insights into the opportunities and challenges of urban agriculture for sustainable city development. Your contribution to this topic through literature reviews or original research papers that deal with urban horticulture is welcomed. I look forward to the opportunity to receive your manuscripts and share interesting outcomes with the community of scientists, students, technicians, and professionals that work in the horticultural sector.
