Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Electrical machines and their associated drive systems are essential components of modern energy conversion technologies and play a critical role in applications ranging from renewable energy generation and industrial automation to transportation electrification and smart grids. With the rapid development of advanced materials, power electronics, and control technologies, there is increasing demand for improved modeling, analysis, and optimization methods to enhance the performance, efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of electrical machines and drives.
This Special Issue, “Modeling and Optimization Design of Electric Machines and Drives,” aims to present recent advances in the theoretical methods, computational techniques, and practical applications related to improving the design and performance of electrical machines and their drive systems. Accurate modeling and effective optimization are essential for understanding the complex electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical interactions within these systems, enabling researchers and engineers to develop more efficient and robust solutions.
This Issue welcomes contributions that address innovative modeling approaches, multi-physics simulations, and advanced optimization techniques applied to various types of electrical machines, including permanent magnet, induction, and synchronous machines, and emerging machine topologies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, electromagnetic field analysis, loss and thermal modeling, and system-level modeling of machine–drive interactions.
In addition, this Special Issue encourages research on optimization strategies for machine design, such as multi-objective optimization, artificial intelligence-based design methods, and data-driven modeling techniques. Studies focusing on control strategies, power electronic integration, and energy management in electrical drive systems are also highly relevant. Applications in renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, industrial drives, and energy storage systems are particularly welcomed, as these areas represent key domains where optimized electrical machines and drives can significantly enhance energy efficiency and sustainability.
By collating contributions from academia and industry, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent research progress and emerging trends in the modeling and optimization of electrical machines and drives. The published works are expected to offer valuable insights for researchers, engineers, and practitioners seeking to develop next-generation electrical machine technologies and intelligent drive systems that support the ongoing transition toward more sustainable and electrified energy systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
