Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We invite submissions for this Special Issue, "The Recent and Latest Developments in Speech and Audio Processing", which aims to showcase novel research and practical innovations at the intersection of speech science, audio engineering, and intelligent systems. This Special Issue welcomes contributions that address hardware and software solutions, emphasizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based approaches.
We encourage submissions that present theoretical advancements, experimental evaluations, or application-oriented systems across various domains, including healthcare, human–computer interactions, and auditory environments.
Topics of Interest
- Speech and Emotion Synthesis: Hardware and software systems for generating expressive, contextsensitive speech, including deep learning-based models;
- Voice Quality Assessment: Techniques and tools for evaluating vocal characteristics, especially in professional voice users such as choir singers and educators;
- Speech- and Voice-Based Medical Diagnostics: AI-enhanced diagnostic platforms and signal analysis methods for clinical speech and voice assessment;
- Machine Learning and AI for Speech Applications: Classifiers and models for emotion recognition, speaker identification, pathology detection, and related tasks;
- Audiology and Hearing Prosthetics: Design and evaluation of digital signal processing algorithms, hearing aids, and cochlear implants;
- Speech Intelligibility and Comprehension: Intelligent systems for speech perception in adverse conditions, including assistive technologies;
- Occupational Noise and Voice Health: Monitoring systems and intervention strategies addressing noise exposure and vocal strain in the workplace;
- Speech Corpora: Creation, annotation, and use of high-quality speech databases for training and benchmarking AI models;
- Speaker and Speech Separation: Hardware and software implementations for multi-speaker audio processing using signal processing and deep learning techniques.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
