Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming the field of power electronics, providing new possibilities for system design, control, monitoring, and optimization. Power electronic systems, such as converters, motor drives, renewable energy interfaces, and microgrids, are becoming more complex, requiring advanced approaches that go beyond traditional techniques. AI offers powerful tools to address nonlinearities, parameter variations, and uncertainties, enabling intelligent, adaptive, and data-driven solutions.

Recent developments in AI applications for power electronics have led to significant improvements in efficiency, reliability, fault tolerance, and predictive capabilities. Key advances include the use of machine learning and deep learning for system modeling and fault diagnosis, reinforcement learning for adaptive real-time control, and digital twin technologies for system optimization. In addition, the integration of edge AI and embedded intelligence is allowing real-time decision-making within converters and energy management systems.

These advancements are essential for the future of sustainable energy, smart grids, and electrified transportation, as they contribute to higher performance, reduced maintenance costs, and improved system resilience. The convergence of AI and power electronics is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing global energy challenges and driving innovation in multiple industries.

The scope of this Special Issue, titled “Artificial Intelligence in Power Electronics”, encompasses a broad range of research areas, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • AI-assisted modeling, design, and optimization of power converters and systems;
  • Machine learning and deep learning for fault detection, diagnosis, and predictive maintenance;
  • Intelligent control methods for converters, motor drives, renewable energy systems, and microgrids;
  • Reinforcement learning and adaptive algorithms for real-time power electronic control;
  • Digital twin development and AI-based optimization of power systems;
  • Edge AI and embedded intelligence for high-performance, real-time applications;
  • Data-driven approaches for efficiency improvement, energy management, and system reliability.

Overall, this Special Issue will highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in advancing power electronics, with the goal of creating more intelligent, efficient, and sustainable electrical systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
