Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advances in cancer detection and treatment have improved survival rates, but they come with rising financial burdens for patients, healthcare systems, and society. Financial toxicity—the adverse economic effects of cancer care—has emerged as a critical issue, even in countries with universal healthcare. Vulnerable populations face heightened risks, underscoring the need for research on cost-effective interventions, health equity, and policy solutions.

This Special Issue explores the economics of cancer care, from prevention to survivorship and end-of-life care. Topics of interest include the following:

  • Cost-effectiveness of screening, therapies, and care delivery models.
  • Financial toxicity and its impact on patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Structural and policy factors influencing affordability and access.
  • Innovative strategies to mitigate economic disparities in cancer care.

We particularly encourage studies on emerging trends, such as value-based care models, real-world cost analyses, and global disparities in cancer expenditure. In addition, contributions may include economic evaluations, policy assessments, or interventions addressing financial hardship.
