Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a Special Issue on "Advances in Multifunctional Polymer Coatings and Films: Exploring Innovations Across Industries". We are interested in presenting the latest achievements and advancements in the field of polymer coating technologies, which possess various functions and properties.
In our Special Issue, we would like to focus on innovative approaches to the design, synthesis, and application of multifunctional polymer coatings and films. The aim is to showcase the latest trends in the field, including advancements in antibacterial, conductivity, corrosion resistance, self-healing, hydrophobicity, and many other properties.

We encourage the submission of scientific articles, reviews, and short communications covering various aspects of innovative polymer coatings and films. Topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • New methods of synthesis and the characterization of multifunctional polymer coatings;
  • The application of modern nanotechnological techniques in the production of polymer coatings and films;
  • The impact of additives on the properties of polymer coatings and films;
  • The application of smart materials in the production of polymer coatings;
  • Examples of innovative applications of polymer coatings in various fields, such as medicine, industry, or environmental protection.

Together, we can create valuable publications that will contribute to further development in this important scientific field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

This paper examines the effect of both natural and synthetic additives of different concentrations to a polysiloxane matrix in order to obtain bactericidal composites. Natural additives such as black cumin, cloves, and turmeric were compared with silver, a well-known antiseptic, and with graphene, which has potential bactericidal properties. The first stage of the research included the production of polysiloxane composites with the above-mentioned powders in the form of bulk solid samples, and then a series of tests were carried out on them to not only assess their bactericidal properties but also determine their effect on physicochemical properties such as chemical structure, surface wettability, roughness, hardness, and surface morphology. Based on the obtained results, the most promising composite recipes were selected, and coatings were produced from them on a super-smooth substrate, which had been previously cleaned using a plasma chemical method. The obtained results indicated that all obtained materials were characterized by high bactericidal activity. The conducted studies also showed a significant effect of the introduced additives on the mechanical properties of the polysiloxane matrix, including graphene, which improved the hardness of the composites. Plasma chemical modification of the substrates increased the adhesion of the tested coatings to them. In addition, the effect of the used additive was also visible in this area. Full article

In this paper, a new consolidation material for earthen sites with silicone-modified acrylic emulsion was synthesized and applied to the consolidation test of soil samples of the site. The effectiveness was tested through the properties of soil samples on the changes in weight, color, permeability test, air permeability, hydrolysis resistance, water resistance, and salt resistance. The results show that the samples treated with the new material have an outstanding effect on hydrolysis resistance, water resistance, and salt resistance without the change in color and gas permeability. After being soaked in Na2SO4 and sodium chloride solution for half a month, the reinforced soil sample did not crack, and it could undergo 15 days of water resistance test and five cycles of sodium sulfate resistance.
