Dear Colleagues,
Lung diseases remain a leading cause of global morbidity and mortality, presenting a significant clinical challenge. Disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung diseases, and pulmonary embolism are driven by intricate molecular and cellular mechanisms. These include chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, abnormal tissue remodeling, and dysregulated signaling cascades. Despite substantial advances in respiratory medicine, critical gaps persist in understanding disease initiation, progression, and viable therapeutic targets.
We are delighted to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue of Current Issues in Molecular Biology—"Molecular Mechanisms in Lung Diseases: From Pathogenesis to Therapeutic Targets" aims to provide an updated overview of the biological processes involved in respiratory diseases and to highlight translational research with potential clinical relevance.
We welcome original research articles and comprehensive reviews addressing, but not limited to, the following topics: molecular mechanisms of airway remodeling and disease progression in COPD; endothelial and vascular dysfunction in pulmonary hypertension; cellular and molecular pathways involved in fibrosis and epithelial injury in interstitial lung diseases; and thromboinflammatory mechanisms, coagulation abnormalities, and emerging biomarkers in pulmonary embolism. Additionally, we highly encourage studies that identify novel biomarkers (diagnostic, prognostic, or predictive) and research focused on discovering emerging molecular therapeutic targets.
