Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The prevalence of obesity in children and adolescents is increasing globally. Childhood obesity is associated with multitude of complications such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, sleep-disordered breathing, fatty liver, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, dyslipidemia and a range of psychological comorbidities. Children living with obesity are more likely to become adults with obesity. The management of childhood obesity is multidisciplinary, involving a biopsychosocial model. More recently, pharmacological interventions have become available to treat obesity in adolescents. Regular screening for obesity-associated complications is essential to identify them early and initiate appropriate management, while the crux of the treatment is to continue with intensive interventions to reduce weight.
