Cellular Approaches for Regenerative Medicine

Dear Colleagues,
Regenerative medicine is an interdisciplinary field aiming to replace or repair/restore tissues or organs that are damaged because of injury, degenerative diseases, aging, or other issues, rather than treating symptoms with various medications. While many forms of regenerative medicine research are underway, some cellular approaches (autologous or allogeneic) have already been used in clinical settings. These include cellular therapies with stem cells and/or non-stem cells (differentiated cells) in a unicellular fashion or combined with other cells (multicellular) and agents/factors.
In this Special Issue, we would like to represent a comprehensive collection of studies and findings so far in the following areas:
- Any type of cellular therapy for any tissues or organs.
- Cellular aggregates, spheroids, or organoids for regenerative medicine.
- Cell therapy formulations (genetic engineering, gene editing, or other manipulations).
- Administration studies (topically, systemic infusions or local injections; scaffold-based or scaffold-free systems).
- Isolation and characterization techniques of cellular products.
- Pros and cons of cell therapies reported in regenerative medicine.
- Technical optimization (cell dose/numbers, injection times, intervals, etc.).
- The FDA's regulatory guidelines governing different kinds of use.
- What has been missing so far? Limitations and possible solutions.
- Ongoing investigations for clinical safety and efficacy.
- Facts and figures about the type and the number of disease benefits from cell therapy approaches so far.
- Combined therapy approaches.
- Acellular therapies with multicellular components.
- Commercialized examples and global market size.
- What can speed up the field and clinical translation?
- Classifications of cell-based therapy technology.
- Demonstrating standard cell manufacturing methods (SOPs) for scaled-up production.
- Clinical translation challenges and possible solutions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
