Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Peritoneal malignancies represent a formidable challenge in oncology, and a comprehensive understanding of their intricate cellular and molecular underpinnings is necessary in order to develop more refined therapeutic strategies. Recent advancements in molecular biology, immunology, and surgical innovation have significantly enhanced our ability to detect, classify, and treat peritoneal metastases with greater precision. However, further exploration is crucial in deciphering the complex interplay within the tumor microenvironment and optimizing treatment paradigms.
This Special Issue will reveal the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving peritoneal carcinomatosis and translate these insights into pioneering therapeutic approaches. We welcome contributions exploring, but not limited to, the following areas:
- The cellular and molecular pathways orchestrating peritoneal metastases;
- Tumor microenvironment dynamics and their influence on therapeutic resistance;
- The immunological dimensions of peritoneal malignancies and novel immunotherapeutic strategies;
- Molecular intraperitoneal treatment strategies for precision-guided treatment (e.g., based on Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC));
- The development and clinical utility of molecular-based peritoneal surface area quantification tools;
- The role of cellular metabolism and epigenetic regulation in peritoneal tumor progression and therapeutic response;
- Experimental models and preclinical investigations to analyze emerging therapeutic agents;
- Novel biomarkers and risk stratification frameworks to optimize patient selection for cytoreductive surgery and intraperitoneal chemotherapy.
We invite the submission of original research articles, reviews, and communications that contribute to the evolving molecular understanding and clinical management of peritoneal malignancies. By launching this Special Issue, we aim to provide a dynamic platform for cutting-edge research, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and propelling innovation in this complex and rapidly advancing field.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
