Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The retina is a highly specialized and metabolically active heterogeneous compartment of the eye. Retinal functions are tightly regulated by various cellular and molecular processes. Disruption of these processes contributes to the onset and progression of several retinal diseases and is a major cause of global vision impairment and blindness today. Despite significant progress in clinical management, several retinal diseases lack established preventive or disease-modifying therapies and require further mechanistic clarification. The purpose of this Special Issue is to collate and unify original research articles and reviews that enhance our understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of retinal development, homeostasis, injury, and disease progression. Contributions may highlight essential biological pathways, disease-associated molecular pathways, or translational knowledge derived from experimental and preclinical studies of retinal disorders. This Special Issue aims to facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue between basic scientists and clinician-scientists to integrate mechanistic findings with translational relevance by opening an open-access forum within Cells. We believe this collection will serve as an important resource for researchers in retinal biology and disease.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Cells is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
