Dear Colleagues,
Artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping medical imaging and creating new opportunities for more precise, individualized cancer care. Advances in deep learning, radiomics, multimodal learning and foundation models now enable quantitative information to be extracted from imaging data beyond conventional visual assessment. These approaches have growing potential across the oncology pathway, including cancer screening and early detection, lesion localization and segmentation, tumor classification and molecular subtype prediction, staging, prognosis, treatment selection, response assessment and recurrence risk estimation.
This Special Issue, “Artificial Intelligence and Medical Imaging in Precision Oncology”, aims to bring together methodological developments and clinically oriented studies that use artificial intelligence to improve cancer imaging and support precision oncology. We welcome original research, reviews and translational studies involving modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, ultrasound, mammography and digital pathology. Relevant topics include deep learning and vision transformers, radiomics and radiogenomics, multimodal data fusion, explainable and trustworthy AI, automated classification, detection and segmentation, predictive imaging biomarkers, image-guided therapy and AI-assisted clinical decision support. Studies addressing multicenter validation, generalizability, reproducibility, uncertainty, bias, privacy and prospective clinical evaluation are particularly encouraged. The Special Issue seeks to highlight robust AI methods with clear clinical relevance and a realistic pathway toward personalized cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
