Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Cancer is a multistage process characterized by molecular alterations that underlie all phases of its development. The majority of these alterations include molecular changes leading to differential gene expression patterns regulated by both genetic and epigenetic mechanisms. In particular, the involvement of an abberant epigenetic landscape together with the genetic background have been associated with the onset of human tumors. The aim of this Special Issue is to outline the state of the art as to how epigenetic alterations (DNA methylation, histone modifications, genome reorganisation, miRNAs, etc.) modify gene expression patterns associated with tumorigenesis. In doing so, we aim to elucidate the underlined mechanism(s) of their involvement and even enhance our understanding of their potential use as targeted clinical therapeutic means. Potential authors are invited to contribute research and/or review manuscripts that bring together the latest research findings on this topic. Emphasis is placed on mechanistic studies delineating underlined pathways (e.g., apoptosis, cell cycle, etc.) by which epigenetic modifications exert their potential benefit as biomarkers of tumor development and/or in establishing efficient clinical therapeutic strategies. Finally, of great importance are manuscripts focusing on the area(s) of utilising multi-omic approaches to identify targets of “key” cellular pathways involved in tumorigenesis, therapeutic resistance and/or development of “next-generation” epigenetic drug compounds.

Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
