Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Patient-derived cancer models have become a core tool in precision oncology, but the field is changing rapidly. This Special Issue will focus on new directions rather than routine drug screening. A major theme is immune-competent organoids. Instead of just measuring whether a tumor responds to a drug, these models show how tumors suppress immune cells and resist immunotherapy. This Special Issue will include studies that reconstruct the tumor microenvironment, including work involving T cells, myeloid cells, and lymph node structures. We also welcome the submission of organ-on-chip and vascularized systems. Adding perfusable blood vessels allows researchers to study drug delivery, angiogenesis, and the reasons behind the failure of cell therapies to reach solid tumors.
On the computational side, we solicit papers that include for AI and machine learning methods that predict drug response, guide drug design, and read-out results at the single-organoid resolution. Papers that combine organoids with CRISPR screens or that build large pan-cancer platforms and biobanks are particularly welcome. Finally, we encourage submissions on standardization, reproducibility, and benchmarking. Reviews, original research, and method papers are all welcome. The field needs honest reporting, including negative results, if these models are to hold up in clinical settings.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
