Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Exposure to traumatic or highly stressful events can lead to a wide spectrum of severe psychological and psychiatric conditions, ranging from chronic burnout and adjustment disorders to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While these conditions are traditionally classified by their clinical symptoms, recent research highlights that they all leave profound and distinct signatures on the human central nervous system, altering brain structure, function and neural connectivity. Despite the high prevalence of these trauma-related conditions worldwide, establishing the exact neurobiological links and distinguishing between their overlapping neural mechanisms remains a difficult challenge. This Special Issue aims to further elucidate how different forms of trauma and stress reshape neural circuits, contributing to precise pathways toward prevention, objective diagnosis and tailored treatment options. We welcome original research, reviews and methodological papers exploring the neurobiology across the entire spectrum of trauma-related conditions. In particular, we encourage studies on populations that are still little explored or research presenting innovative methodologies, including advanced neuroimaging and artificial intelligence (AI) applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Brain Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
