Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue brings together cutting‑edge research on non-invasive neuromodulation to highlight how novel non-invasive neuromodulation techniques can be optimised to enhance motor skill acquisition, via sensorimotor modulation. The scope includes visuomotor learning, the modulation of touch, and pain perception. Techniques in non-invasive neuromodulation are rapidly expanding, and the Special Issue scope includes transcranial magnetic stimulation to more recently developed approaches such as transcranial ultrasound stimulation.
A central theme across contributions is the bidirectional relationship between the sensory and motor systems: neuromodulation can enhance or suppress tactile acuity, alter pain thresholds, and potentially modulate sensorimotor predictions. These sensory changes can influence movement. These insights open promising translational avenues. Non‑invasive stimulation techniques, studies combining these approaches with pharmacological or physiotherapy interventions, and closed-loop neurotechnology are all emerging as new tools to restore function after injury, reduce chronic pain, and optimize motor learning in both rehabilitation and performance settings. By integrating basic neuroscience with clinical and technological innovation, this Special Issue highlights the transformative potential of neuromodulation for improving human movement, touch perception, and pain reduction.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Brain Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
