Advances in Concussions

This special issue belongs to the section “Systems Neuroscience“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Concussions, a form of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), have long been a concern in both clinical and athletic settings. Historically underdiagnosed and poorly understood, the field has evolved significantly over the past two decades, with increased awareness, improved diagnostic tools, and emerging evidence on long-term consequences. From military combat zones to professional sports arenas, the urgency to understand, treat, and prevent concussions has never been greater.

This Special Issue of our medical journal is dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge advancements in the science of concussions. The aim is to bridge clinical practice and research by highlighting innovations in diagnosis, imaging, biomarkers, neuropsychological evaluation, and rehabilitation. We also seek to explore socio-legal implications, policy changes, and public health strategies that are shaping the future of concussion management.

We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, case series, editorials, clinical trials, and translational studies. Submissions may include novel diagnostic techniques, emerging treatment protocols, pediatric and adolescent-focused research, chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) insights, and technology-driven monitoring systems. Through this Special Issue, we strive to provide a comprehensive, forward-looking resource that drives the field toward improved outcomes for those affected by concussions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Brain Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
