Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Carbon-based materials with various surface morphologies and functionalities have gained considerable traction in past decades in many fields. From 3D graphite to 1D carbon nanotubes, and 0D carbon nanodots to 2D graphene, the family of carbon nanomaterials has presented desirable physicochemical properties. Due to their high specific surface area, high electron conductivity, catalytic activity, and mechanical strength, these materials are conducive to various applications. Of particular interest is their potential for biosensing and bioelectronic applications. In light of both the success and prevailing challenges of carbon nanomaterials in biosensors, this Special Issue aims to assemble original research articles, reviews, and prospective articles. New concepts for device fabrication, and improvements in  sensing parameters via manipulations of surface chemistry are highly encouraged. Exclusively, this Special Issue will include (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • Advancements in synthesis and characterization techniques for exploring the biosensing abilities of carbon-based nanostructures and composites.
  • Advancements in the surface engineering of 2D materials towards improvements in surface chemistry and therefore the realization of biosensing abilities.
  • Biosensor device fabrication: challenges and success.
  • Carbon nanomaterial-based sensing devices for healthcare monitoring and environmental remediation, with a particular emphasis on emerging sensors for glucose, cholesterol blood pressure, DNA, RNA, cancer cells, and the detection of different pathogens, viruses, and bacteria. Additionally, this Special Issue focuses on the fabrication of devices for the detection of significant water contaminants, etc.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
