Dear Colleagues,
We can all agree that understanding pathology in the context of aging and stress requires defining their physiology.
Cell senescence is a hallmark of aging and is associated with changes across multiple aspects of cell biology. That includes alterations in genetic material, transcription, translation, and post-translational modifications, reflected in altered proteomic, lipidomic, and metabolomic profiles of cells and tissues. Identification of aging markers that would allow eliminating or at least slowing the progression of undesirable changes during aging is a priority in aging research.
The multifaceted response of cells to stress necessitates a multi-omics approach for a comprehensive understanding. Currently, research leverages these integrated layers to map the complex network from genetic instruction to functional phenotype under various stressors.
Future prospects focus on temporal and spatial resolution, enabling real-time tracking of stress dynamics within specific organelles. Ultimately, this will drive the translation of omics discoveries into predictive biomarkers and targeted therapeutic strategies to modulate stress responses in pathologies such as cancer, neurodegeneration, and aging.
Thus, the aim of this Special Issue, entitled “Tracking Aging and Stress: Omics-Based Insights into Physiology and Pathology”, is to collect work on current research on the physiology and pathology of aging and stress. We encourage you to submit your manuscripts associated with exciting aspects of diagnostics and monitoring of markers and their potential in evaluating the function of living systems at all levels, from overall health to the condition of organs and tissues, to single cells at the molecular level.
