Dear Colleagues,
Cognitive dysfunction is a hallmark of many brain disorders and can arise from genetic susceptibility, environmental exposures, or their combined influence across development and adulthood. Epigenetic regulation provides a key molecular interface through which genetic and environmental factors shape gene expression, neural circuit function, and cognitive outcomes. Although increasing evidence implicates epigenetic dysregulation in cognitive impairment, the underlying mechanisms and their pharmacological modulation remain incompletely understood.
This Special Issue focuses on recent advances in epigenetic and pharmacological mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction associated with genetic and environmental factors. We welcome studies examining epigenetic regulation—including DNA methylation, histone modifications, chromatin remodeling, and non-coding RNAs—as well as transcriptional regulation, synaptic plasticity, and pharmacological interventions that influence cognitive function. Contributions addressing genetic or environmental influences individually, as well as emerging work exploring their interaction, are encouraged. Original research and review articles spanning neurodevelopmental, neuropsychiatric, and neurodegenerative contexts are welcome.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
