Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The biodiversity of agricultural systems is threatened by industrialized food production, which mainly focuses on quantitative rather than qualitative traits, putting less emphasis on the health, productivity, and resilience of agricultural ecosystems.

This Special Issue examines its comprehensive effects on ecosystem services, including soil fertility, pest regulation, and climate change adaptation, and seeks practical, science-based solutions with which to overcome the negative impacts. Focus is placed on enhancing biodiversity across four different levels, from crops and associated organisms to sociocultural, economic, and institutional diversity. This Special Issue highlights the importance of conserving and utilizing agrobiodiversity to support sustainable food systems in urban and rural livelihoods, with a focus on food security and ecological balance.

The topics covered in this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, organic farming systems, agroecology, regenerative agriculture, soil microbial diversity, landraces, urban agriculture, ecosystem services, climate change adaptation, and food security.

Manuscript Submission Information

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
