Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The convergence of renewable energy and agriculture offers transformative potential for agricultural productivity, efficiency, and resilience, particularly in rural and off-grid landscapes. This Special Issue highlights technical innovations and methodological advancements in renewable energy applications within agricultural systems, showing how they support sustainable farm operations and resource management.
We welcome contributions on a broad range of solutions, including farm-scale photovoltaic systems, agrivoltaics, mini-grids, wind, hybrid systems, and other emerging technologies. Emphasis should be placed on technical performance, practical implementation, and agronomic outcomes, such as improvements in irrigation reliability, water and energy efficiency, crop management, and climate resilience. Socio-economic outcomes, e.g., enhanced access to irrigation or farm-level efficiency gains, may be included as supporting evidence of technological effectiveness rather than as the primary focus.
Contributions may include:
- Case studies of renewable energy in diverse agricultural contexts;
- Performance assessments and optimization methods;
- Integration with smart agriculture and energy management systems;
- Techno-economic or adoption analyses validating technical outcomes;
- Approaches to improve resilience to climate variability and extreme events.
This Special Issue provides a comprehensive view of how renewable energy technologies can advance sustainable agricultural production, highlighting innovations that are both technically robust and practically implementable.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
