Dear Colleagues,
Plant physiological research has long been central to agricultural productivity, from early studies of photosynthesis, water relations, and plant nutrition to contemporary assessments of plant performance and stress tolerance. Classical physiological methods—such as measurements of photosynthesis, respiration, transpiration, chlorophyll fluorescence, plant water status, and nutrient uptake—remain essential tools. In recent decades, however, advances in omics technologies, high-throughput phenotyping, remote sensing, and precision agriculture have enabled stronger links between molecular regulation, crop yield, quality, and yield stability under changing environmental conditions.
The Special Issue “Plant Physiological Responses in Agricultural Crops: From Molecular Mechanisms to Field Management” aims to integrate knowledge across biological and organizational scales, from gene regulation, signaling, and metabolism to organ-, canopy-, and field-level physiology, as well as agronomic practices. Particular attention is given to plant resistance and tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, including photosynthetic efficiency, oxidative stress, defense responses, water- and nutrient-use efficiency, plant–microbe interactions, and soil–plant–atmosphere relationships.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, and methodological contributions that combine classical physiological approaches with modern analytical tools such as multi-omics, metabolomics, phenomics, modeling, and field experiments. Submissions should clearly link mechanistic understanding of stress and defense processes with agronomic outcomes and provide practical implications for sustainable crop production.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
