Dear Colleagues,
Floor management is a central component of vineyard systems, influencing soil health, vine performance, ecosystem services, and the long-term sustainability of viticulture. Practices adopted in inter- and intra-row areas affect soil physical, chemical, and biological properties, weed dynamics, water availability, nutrient cycling, and resilience to environmental and climatic stresses.
In recent decades, concerns about climate change, soil degradation, herbicide resistance, and the demand for more sustainable production systems have intensified research on optimized floor management. Practices such as cover cropping, mulching, organic amendments, mechanical weed control, and precision management can improve soil quality, enhance resource-use efficiency, and reduce environmental impacts. However, effectiveness varies with pedoclimatic conditions, vineyard age, management intensity, and production goals, underscoring the need for integrated, site-specific solutions.
This Special Issue will gather high-quality original research articles and reviews on innovative floor management strategies in vineyards, aligned with Agronomy’s scope on crop management, soil–plant interactions, and sustainable agroecosystems. Topics include cover crops, alternatives to herbicides, soil responses, soil organic carbon dynamics, impacts on vine growth, yield and grape quality, water-use efficiency, climate adaptation, ecosystem services, and decision-support tools.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Agronomy is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
