A fungal infection that is difficult to diagnose and treat, mucormycosis gained prominence with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic as infection with the new coronavirus predisposes patients to a greater risk of developing opportunistic infections, such as that caused by the “black fungus”. In order to identify the physiological changes and risk factors related to SARS-CoV-2 infection that favor the development of mucormycosis, an integrative review was carried out based on the PICO strategy, in which searches were performed in December 2021 in the Virtual Library in Health, on the PubMed portal and on the Web of Science, using the Mesh terms: COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Mucormycosis together with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. Full-text articles were included that were available in journals/periodicals and were published in Portuguese, English or Spanish from December 2019 to 2021 that addressed the metabolic changes caused by COVID-19 related to the involvement of mucormycosis and excluded review, editorial and duplicate studies. With the application of filters and the exclusion of duplicates, 140 and 151 studies were selected by title and abstract—113 convergent and 41 divergent—and, after reading in full, nine studies remained to compose the review. The results indicated a greater number of publications from India and a predominance of male and diabetic patients with elevated inflammatory markers. The higher prevalence of diabetics and hyperglycemia are in line with the hypotheses raised by other literature, given the impacts resulting from COVID-19 on glycemic control and the risks to the body from diabetes. Thus, post-SARS-CoV-2 hyperglycemia may be a risk factor for the development of mucormycosis. Full article

The COVID-19 pandemic had many political, economic, and social consequences for individuals, families and communities. Vaccines play a crucial role for its effective treatment and health care professionals are key persons toward that aim, as they contribute to a successful implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination programs. Therefore, their personal views are of utmost importance. The purpose of this study was to investigate health care professionals’ willingness to get vaccinated and their perceptions and concerns about the vaccination process. Full article

Nanocarriers are used globally in diverse fields to encapsulate drug toovercome various problems associated with different drug delivery systems such asstability, solubility, improvement in functional activities, homogeneity, and protection from physical and chemical hazard destructions. In the field of biomedicine, this approachis considered to be of particular importance as it can easily overcome the issues related to biocompatibility, bioavailability, toxicity profile, and therapeutic side effects. Lipid-based delivery systems have evolved as a newer approach in drug delivery. Advancement, development, and design modification of the lipid-based drug delivery systems have given rise to hybrid structures containing both inorganic and organic parts called cerasomes. Cerasomes are a modified form of liposomes that can overcome the limitations related to lipid nanoparticles. However, these cerasomes are also effective in treating diabetes mellitus, which is a metabolic disorder that has affecteda vast population worldwide for the last few decades. The development of cerasomes for the treatment of diabetes has provided a new window for researchers to overcome the different problems connected to the current therapies. This article provides a thorough assessment of the hybrid liposomal cerasomes literature and how it can be effectively employed in the treatment of diabetes. Full article

Primary health care (PHC) in Indonesia is essential in combating the spread of COVID-19 in the community. While each PHC deals with different situations at the beginning of COVID-19, the purpose of this study is to investigate the roles of PHC in preventing COVID-19 spread and promoting healthy behavior in the community. We applied a qualitative approach, collected data through focus group discussions, and then analyzed the data using thematic content analysis. PHC health officers from eight Indonesian regions, from western to eastern Indonesia, participated in this study. This study found that PHCs play crucial roles in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and promoting healthy behavior. They collaborated with the community to identify suspected COVID-19 cases, provided isolation facilities, and educated the public about COVID-19 prevention. The community contribution was somehow followed by the stigmatization of COVID-19 patients, complicating PHC efforts to prevent COVID-19 spread. Using the WHO building blocks, we identified lacking leadership, a healthy workforce, and access to essential medicine as other challenges for PHC to perform their tasks. PHC centers must employ strategies to provide a comprehensive understanding and combat the stigma associated with COVID-19 since the community plays pivotal roles and presents hurdles in preventing the spread of COVID-19. This paper reports the blood lead levels amongst illegal juvenile miners and their perception of the role of illegal mining in terms of societal and health issues. The sampled population included 90 illegal miners between 14 and 19 years of age with a mean age of 17 and mean blood lead level of 15.58 µg/dL. Those involved in going underground and draining the gold had higher blood lead levels (BLLs) with a mean = 26.03 µg/dL. Sixteen participants (84%) believed that being involved in illegal mining may lead to adverse health, and they were concerned about injury due to violence. Most participants had experienced occupational and environment-related disease. All participants believe that illegal mining-related activities have the potential to contaminate the environment, yet all have conducted the same activities in their yard or household. The majority of illegal miners know the danger of the chemicals used to extract the gold. Out of 19, only two have ever received personal protective clothing/equipment. The others had to fend for themselves. The findings of this study highlight and raise critical public health, social, and criminal issues. Therefore, there is a need for multisectoral action, especially regarding public health. Full article

Machine Learning (ML), a branch of Artificial Intelligence (AI), has been successfully applied in the healthcare domain to diagnosing diseases. The ML techniques have not only been able to diagnose common diseases but are also equally capable of diagnosing rare diseases. Although ML offers systematic and sophisticated algorithms for multi-dimensional clinical data, the accuracy of ML in diagnosing diseases is still a concern. As different ML approaches perform differently for different healthcare datasets, we need an approach to apply multiple state of art algorithms with optimal lines of codes, so that the search for the best ML method to diagnose a particular disease can be pursued efficiently. In our work, we show that, the use of libraries such as AutoGluon can be used to compare the performances of multiple ML approaches to diagnosing a disease for a given dataset with a couple of lines of codes. This will decrease the probability of inaccurate diagnosis, which is a significantly important consideration while dealing with the health of the people. We have tested the performance of 20 ML approaches such as Naïve Bayes, Support Vector Machine (SVD), K Nearest Neighbors (KNN), perceptron, and robust deep neural networks in AutoGluon such as LightGBM, XGBoost, MXNet, etc., based on the Pima Indian Diabetes Dataset. Access to digital health data collections such as clinical notes, discharge summaries, or medical charts has increased in the last few years due to the increased use of electronic health records, which provide instant access to patients’ clinical information. The volume and the unstructured nature of these datasets present great challenges in analyses and subsequent applications to healthcare. The growing volume of clinical data generated and stored in electronic health records creates challenges for physicians when reviewing patients’ records with the aim of understanding individual patients’ health histories. Electronic healthcare records contain large volumes of unstructured data, which require one to read through to get the required information. This is a challenging task due to lack of suitable techniques to quickly extract the needed information. Information processing tools in the clinical domain that provide support to users in seeking needed information are lacking. The use of data visualization has been introduced in an attempt to solve this problem; however, no single approach has been widely adopted. In this paper, we propose a unique approach for modeling clinical notes using the semantics of various units of a clinical text document to aid doctors in reviewing electronic clinical notes. This is achieved by applying the supervised machine learning technique to identify and present semantically similar information together, facilitating the identification of relevant information to users. The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 has caused a catastrophe in the world. With significant efforts from the medical and scientific communities, millions of people all around the world have been vaccinated. Irrespective of that, individuals are getting infected due to mutations in the virus. Noticeable aftermath damage is seen in most of the major organs of the body. Although it is primarily a respiratory infection, previously healthy patients have mostly developed cardiovascular diseases. Natural products can be used as a cure for such newly developed diseases. Targeted drug delivery of natural products through nanotechnology (nanoparticles and nanorobots) can be an efficient way to tackle this modern-day problem. This review aims to discuss the ways nanotherapeutics can be used to treat cardiac complications. Essentially, it will help to develop an idea that can be used in the future as a solution to the problem under discussion. Full article

In this work, a machine learning methodology is used to predict the progress of the glycemic values of six patients with diabetes. Eight different algorithms are compared i.e., ANN, PNN, Polynomial Regression, Gradient Boosted Trees Regression, Random Forest Regression, Simple Regression Tree, Tree Ensemble Regression, Linear Regression. The algorithms are classified based on the ability to minimize four statistical errors, namely: Mean Absolute Error, Mean Squared Error, Root Mean Squared Error, Mean Signed Difference. Following the analysis, an ordering of the algorithms by predictive efficiency is proposed. Data are collected within the “Smart District 4.0 Project” with the contribution of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development. Full article

Fitness clubs have emerged and become famous in response to Taiwanese health needs. Improving service quality and increasing customer loyalty to enhance competitive advantage in the market is a major topic for fitness industry owners. The purpose of this research is to verify the relationship between service quality and customer loyalty in Taichung fitness clubs. This study adopted the questionnaire survey method. The questionnaire was developed based on previous studies. Respondents were selected by convenient sampling within large-scale chain fitness clubs, small gyms, and national sports centers. This study used online and hard-copy questionnaires to collect data, and a total of 94 valid questionnaires were obtained. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and partial least squares structural equation modeling. It was found that the service qualities of tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, certainty, and empathy are all significantly positively correlated with customer loyalty; responsiveness and empathy also significantly influence customer loyalty. The conclusions of this study indicate that although service quality has a positive correlation with customer loyalty, responsiveness and empathy are important factors to improve customer loyalty in fitness clubs. This study used the literature method to systematically review correlation studies on the sports performance of school-aged children aged 7–12 years. Twenty related studies were summarized and sorted out. The results showed that most of the studies used the motion sensor method to measure the intensity of physical activity, and few used the observation and survey methods. Most studies measured sports performance on the basis of changes in various physical fitness indicators to reflect differences in sports performance. Moderate- and high-intensity comprehensive sports were beneficial in improving the sports performance of school-aged children. At present, differences in the positive effects of various physical activities on children’s sports performance need to be further compared. The research results can provide theoretical scientific guidance for the selection of children’s physical activities and sports methods and the development of comprehensive courses such as school sports activities, as well as help children’s sports performance improvement and effective development of physical and mental health.
