Sputtered coatings of tungsten-modified hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H:W) are typically a nanocomposite material: tungsten carbide dispersed in an a-C:H matrix. In our study, we adjusted four major deposition parameters according to a central composite design. Besides the deposition rate, also hardness and Young’s modulus of the coatings varied strongly. The relationships between parameters, process variables and these properties are statistically evaluated, visualized and discussed. View this paper.
