Cover Story: The paper reports on a new national rehabilitation programme within the United Kingdom. The initiative, conceived and designed by people with Parkinson's disease (PD), is specifically for people newly diagnosed with PD called First Steps. This work provides a novel consideration of the impact of storytelling as part of the First Steps programme. The work is able to illustrate that stories of living with Parkinson's disease can impact the listeners' own story. We report on listeners' stories following the intervention. The stories were named The Affirmed Story, The Validated Story and The Transformed Story. The tellers' story appeared to be effective at persuading individuals to adopt different behaviours. We identified the psychosocial mechanisms which likely explain these stories. The First Steps programme helps people with PD to consider how they can cope and live following diagnosis.
